I currently work as a Senior Data Scientist at Bunnings. I enjoy finding practical solutions to business challenges with the help of data and machine learning models. Applying machine learning algorithms to solve real world problem excites me. While building models is the glamorous part of my role, I also spend a significant amount of time gaining deeper understanding of the business through collaboration with stakeholders and obtaining insights from data analysis. I believe my biggest asset is my ability to grasp concepts quickly and dedication to learn. I value collaborative, inclusive, and positive team culture.

Skills

Programming Languages & Tools

I primarily work with SQL and Python (numpy, pandas and sklearn). I have working knowledge in R. When it comes to visualisation, I mostly use seaborn or matplotlib libraries in Python, Power BI or Tableau. I use git and GitHub for version control. I am familiar with AWS concepts.

Non-technical skills
  • Organisational skills: Self management of workload, timely progress on sprint deliverables and coherently structured documentation.
  • Team work skills: Collaboration with teams to successfully deliver projects.
  • Leadership skills: Take lead on initiatives on team building activities and knowledge sharing sessions.

Interests

When I am not working, I spend most of my free time studying more about data science, computer science and statistics to continuously grow myself. In these fields, I find that there are endless topics and areas to discover, learn and deepen my understanding. I also write blogs on data science topics on Medium/Towards Data Science when I am inspired.

In my remaining free time, I like to play board/card games (some of my favourites are Codenames, Charades and Magic: The Gathering) or play piano (currently learning The Entertainer by Scott Joplin). I also enjoy watching movies, documentaries, and comedies (some of my favourite comedians are Ivan Decker, Anjelah Johnson, Ali Wong, Michael McIntyre, K-von, Drew Allen and Tony Deyo).
